Sit Happens Sick Child Policy
Because we love your little legends — but we also love keeping everyone safe and well.
At Sit Happens, the health and safety of children, families and our Sit Legends comes first. We follow a clear Sick Child Policy to prevent the spread of illness and ensure our sitters can provide safe, appropriate care.
When we’re unable to provide care:
If your child has any of the following symptoms within the past 24 hours, we’re unable to proceed with the booking:
Fever of 38°C or higher
Vomiting or diarrhoea
A new or worsening rash
Contagious infections (e.g. conjunctivitis, hand-foot-mouth, gastro, COVID, influenza)
Severe cough, wheezing or difficulty breathing
Any illness your child’s doctor has advised requires isolation
Symptoms that prevent them from participating comfortably in normal activities
We know it’s disappointing when kids get sick — but our Sit Legends often work with multiple families each week, and keeping illness contained is essential.
If your child becomes unwell during a sit:
If symptoms arise mid-session, your Sit Legend will contact you immediately.
Depending on the severity, you may be asked to return home early.
Sick Child + Cancellation Policy:
If your child is unwell, our standard cancellation policy still applies:
If you cancel 48+ hours ahead: no issues at all — deposit refunded or moved.
If you cancel within 24–48 hours: deposit forfeited.
If you cancel less than 24 hours before: deposit forfeited + 50% cancellation fee.
This ensures our Sit Legends’ income is protected — especially during peak sick-season.
What you can do if illness pops up:
Contact us as soon as symptoms begin
See if another family member can remain home while the sitter cares for siblings
Reschedule if you’re 48+ hours out
Move your deposit to a future date (48+ hours out)
Additional Notes:
Sit Legends cannot administer medication unless previously approved and clearly documented in your intake form.
For ongoing medical conditions (asthma, allergies, epilepsy, etc.) please ensure your intake form is complete and medication plans are up to date.
If you’re unsure whether your child is too unwell for care, just message us — we’re here to help.
